Changes to how I Blog

25 Nov 2008

I have always classed myself as someone who is “technology friendly”, but when it comes to blogging, it has always seemed an effort, until now!

I have changed the way that I blog, and this is the first real NEW blog entry, after this change, and it has opened my eyes to a new world (well, it’s made my blogging life easier anyway 🙂

As a business we use Joomla a lot. We deliver websites and portals that plug into OpenCRM, quite cool.

My previous blogs were a part of our company portal, using a joomla component to display Articles as blogs. This worked well as far as a blog product goes,

but did nothing to really assist me with my posts.

Now, don’t get me wrong, Joomla and the blog component worked great, it was ME that has the problem, finding time to post whilst at my desk, home or on a train/plane.

So what have I changed? The answer is that I sat down for 10 minutes and thought about what I was trying to achieve, and where the pain was.

So, I took up a WordPress blog, free!

I downloaded the iPhone app for WordPress, free again!

I changed my link in Joomla to be an RSS feed from my WordPress blog, so this is still visible on the company portal, but feeds from my WordPress site.

I can now blog from my iPhone, remote, anytime anywhere. How cool is that.

I guess the moral of my story is, work on your business sometimes, not just in it! A few minutes “off the roller coaster” and I can see clearer.

Here’s to more posts from bizarre places in the world!
