How can I create an Associated Picklist that will auto populate another field?

Updated: 18 July 2011 12:23:17 OpenCRM::Settings

Within OpenCRM you have the option to create a Custom Picklist that will update a standard text field with a pre-determined value. This is particularly useful when you have a list of values that you wish to select from a drop down list of items and you want to populate a text field based on the picklist selection.

This done by following these steps;

1. Go to SETTINGS (Top Right)

2. Expand the Custom Field Settings option under the STUDIO section

3. Select the MODULE that you wish to create your Custom Field in

4. Select NEW CUSTOM FIELD

5. Create the TEXT field that you want to populate from a Picklist selection

6. From the list of fields you need to determine the 'actual field name' - this will be something similar to cf_xxx

7. Hover over the DEL option next to your new field, in the status bar of the browser (that's the bottom section) you will see a string that contains the field name

8. Once you have the field name you can set up the Associated Picklist

9. Select NEW CUSTOM FIELD

10. Select the Associated Picklist option in the list of Field Types

11. Create your picklist field name and values in the top part of the screen

12. Enter the Associated Field name - this is the cf_xxx name that you determined earlier

13. Enter some values that will relate to the same positions in the top table

14. If you go to the SETTINGS option and expand Picklist Settings under the STUDIO block you can select the module and picklist field that you have just set up

15. When you edit this picklist you will notice that there are two list areas, the first is the value that s shown in the pisklist dropdown and the second is the value that will be updated in the text field you setup.
