I have seen mention of OpenCRM, Word and .odt files - does this work with OS X Office for Mac?

Unfortunately as many Apple Mac OS X 'Office for Mac' user will be aware Microsoft have not kept up in terms of compatibility with the Mac versions of Office.

One of the ares that Microsoft are 'working on' for Office for Mac is the ability to save and open .odt files. Although this is sometimes possible (after a few error messages) the formatting of the files may be suspect.

Of course OpenOffice can save and open .doc and .docx files but again be careful as formatting between the two applications is not 100% consistent.

With every new release of OpenOffice and Microsoft Office compatibility increases so our advice is to test the types of formatting that you are likely to use.

Windows users of Office are able to open .odt files as well as 'save as' .odt files direct from Word.

Note: Similar to Word .doc and .docx formats are the Excel .xls and .xlsx and PowerPoint .ppt and .pptx extensions which follow the same general rules.
