Acceptable Use Policy

Participating in the various newsgroups that make up the Usenet news system without infringing the rights of other users is generally a matter of common sense and courtesy. The vast majority of OpenCRM customers can be expected to appreciate that Usenet is a publishing medium and that a Usenet article is a publication and accordingly to use their own good sense of what is and is not appropriate to guide their decisions about what sort of material to publish.

Regrettably, from time to time, articles appear that infringe the rights of others. Examples include, but are not limited to those that contain unsolicited commercial advertising (spam), those that contain pornography or racial abuse, as well as those that infringe copyright or contain libellous statements. Inclusion of material of this sort in a posting is usually described as "abuse" and may also be unlawful in many jurisdictions.

This Usenet AUP is based on current "best Internet industry practice" and draws on the collective experience of Usenet users, service providers and the owners and administrators of computer networks, which are used to exchange Usenet articles across the Internet community. Many of these experiences cannot be codified into a formal document. Accordingly, it is not possible to state what is and is not acceptable by reference to such understandings. Additionally, what may have been agreed (whether informally or not) by unidentified individuals who have no legal authority in the relevant jurisdictions is not binding on anyone and does not afford those fixed with liability with a defence in the event that an article is found to be unlawful.

While OpenCRM does not wish to form opinions on the content of its customers articles, and always recommends that when a grievance occurs the aggrieved party should try to resolve it directly with the customer, there is certain content which we do seek to restrict because it infringes others rights and/or because we may be held liable if we fail to exercise reasonable care in respect of its publication and/or might jeopardise the position of Software Add-ons Ltd within the Usenet community.

In such cases, it is important for the protection of other Internet users that OpenCRM takes firm action to prevent any recurrences.

We will enforce appropriate sanctions against any of our customers who are responsible for posting such material. Such sanctions include, but are not limited to, a formal warning and suspension of Usenet access through OpenCRM's machines and suspension of other services provided to the customer by Software Add-ons Ltd and issuing cancel messages in respect of articles originating from our news servers.
If a customer's access is suspended, this may later be lifted, at OpenCRM's sole discretion, upon receipt of a formal written undertaking by the customer in question not to post any further offending articles. The facts and merits of all such cases are considered by OpenCRM.

Software Add-ons - The Home of OpenCRM reserves the right to amend this Usenet AUP at its sole discretion and without prior notice.

Please report suspected violations of this policy by recorded mail to The Abuse Team, Software Add-ons, 1 Battalion Court, Colburn Business Park, Richmond, North Yorkshire, DL9 4QN. Credit Funding in Ope…

Earlier this week, we completed a minor release that will be bringing some exciting new features and enhancements to our customers’ systems over the coming weeks. You can find a little introduction to the two big ticket items over in our version release news story and further details will be available to all our customers in the release notes, published on our own customer portal. But I want to talk about one of the “minor” features that will be included in...

Avoiding Holiday Chao…

Year end is here, hooray, you made it! But along with all the reporting and financial fun (not) that you have to tackle at this time of the year, there’s one more job that needs to be managed: the holiday rush. No, that the Christmas holiday rush, but the one where everyone suddenly remembers that they have a few days of holiday to use up and are desperate to organise “just a few days off.” In the last month of the financial year…and...

Being Part of the Com…

This can be a very difficult balance, do you do this just to gain some recognition or is a genuine effort to add something to your community or the place where you work? My son came to me recently as a coach of an under 8’s football team and asked if we would like to sponsor the kids with a new strip. After a short conversation, we decided that we would be delighted to and it would be a great thing...

Cloud storage is a big step towards streamlining your business. It allows you to store your client details and other information in a manner that is accessible from anywhere, at any time. You can build up a great web of data by interlinking Companies and Contacts with all manner of actions, sales details and support requests, helping you build a complete customer profile. Just like those clients, your own business is not a static entity - you are constantly evolving. Staff...

Having the Right Pers…

It is a common pitfall, especially in the tech industry, to assume that known tasks are therefore easy tasks. That just because you know how to do something (and that everyone in your office knows how to do the same thing), it is actually common knowledge. What do I mean by this? Let me give you an example: I was recently having a conversation with one of our developers about a new piece of software I wanted to introduce and had been...
